Celebrate Film History At Texas Theatre

From sold out performances to red carpet premiers ("When Black Women Dare"), the Texas Theatre offers many options for entertainment. A $2 million dollar expansion of the historic theater has recently completed Aviation Cinemas. Improvements to the Texas theater include second cinema upstairs, state of the art surround sound and Digital Cinema projection. All these upgrades give us plenty of amenities to enjoy with upcoming films like:

EEPHUS Presented by Oak Cliff Sandlot

MONKEYBONE, starring Brendan Fraser

The Wicker Man – 50th Anniversary in 4K!

Death of a Unicorn

The theater's commitment to showcasing diverse films and hosting engaging events makes it a vital cultural asset for Dallas. Drop in early at the Texas Theatre Bar that opens before the shows Thursday through Sunday. The bar offers full service bar with refreshments and comfortable spaces to mingle. Check with the professional staff about BYOV: Bring Your Own Vinyl, and they can offer suggestions for playing a selection of classic vinyl - Yes, think - tunes playing on an old school record player.

By just enjoying current films we help ensure historic landmarks like the Texas Theatre continue to thrive. When visiting these landmarks we find that the structures themselves often have tales to tell - sometimes with connections to present day events.

This is the case with the present JFK files to be released - the Texas Theatre is the very location where on November 22, 1963, Lee Harvey Oswald, suspected shooter of President Kennedy and a police officer, entered the Texas Theatre without paying. The film being shown on this day - "War Is Hell."

See the Texas Theatre website for notes on the landmarks history and connection to JFK and Dallas history, plus, current showing and schedules.
