Each trip to the Indianapolis Zoo is a new experience because nature has its own schedule, which is what we love about visiting. Indy’s Zoo is dedicated to sharing the message of conservation and beauty of nature and now we can discover more about the world of Chimpanzees at the Penny and Jock Fortune International Chimpanzee Complex.
The Indianapolis Zoo is thrilled to present this exciting introduction to the life of chimpanzees is presented by Central Indiana Honda Dealers. It is a wonder to see chimpanzees in a natural habitat designed for them move around freely - and they do!
In the Penny and Jock Fortune International Chimpanzee Complex presented by Central Indiana Honda Dealers we find:
- The Chimpanzee Trail with some sections of the trail stretching directly overhead public walkways
- The Community Hub provides the chimpanzees with elevated spaces that have the best views of downtown Indianapolis and White River State Park.
- The Harlan and Shriver Families Cognition Center lets chimpanzees participate in cognitive tasks?
- The Deborah J. Simon Culture Center invites us to learn about the diverse ways wild chimpanzees use tools and have distinct cultures in their communities
Along with the Chimpanzees - a must see area of the zoo is the Simon Skjodt International Orangutan Center. Watch as these Orangutan watch back, while they also educate and entertain us all. On a ride aboard a gondola we could see an Orangutan hanging out on a perch before swinging off. The love to climb like the Chimpanzees and we could see how much they enjoyed people - watching.
