A major new work by 2020 National Artist in Residence, Victor Ehikhamenor is part of the Neon Museum’s collection. The work, called “Like Water God Riding His Dragon” references a poem by Yusef Komunyakaa and incorporates neon elements within a sculpted canvas landscape of iconography.
Created during the 2020 Artist in Residence program and as part of the “What You Mean to Me” exhibition, the mixed-media, three-dimensional artwork represents the Nigerian-American artist’s first forays into incorporating neon tubing into his work.
Artist in Residence, Victor Ehikhameno is a two-time Venice Biennale exhibitor, as well as an accomplished photographer and writer. He has been prolific in producing abstract, symbolic and politically motivated works.
In addition to the work acquired, Ehikhamenor also collaborated with members of the Las Vegas community to create large-scale drawings, sculptures and installation work inspired by the museum’s historic collection.
The Neon Museum is full of surprises. The North Gallery presents what has been described as a brilliant nighttime augmented-reality, audiovisual spectacle. While the Boulevard Gallery has event space along with outdoor exhibit space. This museum is truly a Nevada jewel that shares the treasured creations of a golden age while introducing us to artists of the future like Ehikhamenor!
