The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum is home to stunning collections of art by masters such as Rembrandt, Raphael, Titian, Michelangelo, Whistler, and Sargent. The museum is known to present exciting exhibits that unite art and community and inspires new ways of envisioning our world.
Among the current exhibits is that by Shen Wei, who grew up during the Cultural Revolution in China. Painting in Motion will unfold across all three of the Museum’s special exhibition spaces.
“Shen Wei’s art focuses on discovery—the unfolding of a surprise, a new way of thinking about the forms of energy in the body and in nature that brings with it the understanding that everything is connected,” said Pieranna Cavalchini, co-curator of Shen Wei Painting in Motion and Tom & Lisa Blumenthal Curator of Contemporary Art.
The exhibition will be one everyone will admire because it encompasses dance, painting, drawing and filmmaking. With so many art forms presented, this special exhibition will span the Museum’s Hostetter and Fenway Galleries, and Anne H. Fitzpatrick Façade beginning in early December through mid June.
