While in the Smokies this fall you’ll find some traditional German fun and more at the annual OktOBERfest at the Ober Gatlinburg Ski Area and Amusement Park. Bavarian-style food, beer, costumes and music all await as Ober Gatlinburg brings us 38 days of merrymaking and fun from September 27th through November 3rd, 2019.
One of the fun events is the performances by the Smoky Mountain Oompah Band, in authentic costumes. They will perform popular folk dances with free shows each day during OktOBERfest. You can catch their show at the Seasons of Ober Restaurant at 1:00 PM and 5:00 PM daily, with additional performances Friday through Sunday at 3:00 PM & 7:00 PM.
Of course, why not stop in for a show and to sample some delicious German food while you’re there. The restaurant menu will include a variety of OktOBERfest signature dishes, including an assortment of schnitzel, sausage and sauerkraut entrees, stuffed cabbage rolls, and Bavarian pretzels with bier cheese. Plus, Ober Gatlinburg will also feature their popular Biergarten with new and improved and larger, at 40’x40,’ featuring a stage with live entertainment.
This year they are presenting the Ober’s Glühwein Cart, a traditional homemade mulled wine served warm in a souvenir mug shaped as a boot. There will be a nice selection of beers , and local Brewmasters from area breweries will be also on-hand periodically to discuss and sample their seasonal sips.
Getting to Ober Gatlinburg Ski Area and Amusement Park is an adventure along - you can take the Tram ride from downtown Gatlinburg. This tram offers spectacular views of the region and you may even see some bears below. And, it’s ideal when you come back and go snow skiing, snowboarding, and snow tubing in the winter. Or, just travel up the road to enjoy activities like Alpine Slide, Rock Climbing Wall, Chair-Swing, Maze, and Mini-Golf in spring or the the Ski Mountain Coaster, Scenic Chairlift, Wildlife Encounter and Indoor Ice Skating year round.
Along with the entertaining Oompah Band, German food and brews you’ll experience outdoor games and activities, including inflatable bounce houses, cornhole, face painting, and arts and crafts, making Ober Gatlinburg’s OktOBERfest a fun, family friendly event!
