Indianapolis is known for tradition's, and at the Indiana State Museum is home to several during the Holiday Season. The original 1958 Santa Claus Express train is a favorite, and they have a replica that children will love because they can actual ride it, and explore the Celebration Crossing exhibit, and Imagination Playground.
One of the highlights of the season are the beautiful window displays, and you'll find a traditional Christmas Window at L.S. Ayres whimsical 36-inch-tall cherub mysteriously appeared atop the clock on Thanksgiving Eve in 1947 to keep a watchful eye on holiday shoppers until Santa's arrival Christmas Eve. Ayres and Company exhibit, which was fabricated in 1983 by Spaeth Design Company, New York.
A long running tradition that is much adored is the magical appearance of the whimsical 36-inch-tall cherub that mysteriously appeared atop the clock at L.S. Ayres on Thanksgiving Eve in 1947 to keep a watchful eye on holiday shoppers until Santa's arrival Christmas Eve. This tradition continues today, and in my opinion is a tribute to Indiana Artist for it was created by Indiana sculptor and Herron School of Art instructor David Rubens.
Another tradition enjoyed by locals and visitor's from afar is a visit to the L.S. Ayres Tea Room, a re-creation of the beloved historic restaurant inside the former downtown L.S. Ayres department store, which will be open for daily walk-ins through the End of December. And, families can join Santa for a buffet breakfast.
