Natural Treasure's Along The Oregon Coast

Happy Travels in Oregon

Oregon is a great state to visit; with lush forest, charming towns, and beautiful beaches. One of our favorite activities while visiting a beach is searching for shells, and other natural treasures like driftwood. When you wander along Oregon's beaches you find no visit is the same as the last. The beach changes day to day, season to season, and year to year, so you'll never know what you'll find.

One tip we learned when searching for treasures along the coast is to check the Tide Tables, which tell you when it's best to head for the shore. The best time is two hours after high tide when there's a freshly exposed beach with lots of natural treasures to discovered. The shells, interesting pieces of driftwood, and glass floats are considered some of the best treasures. Although, the Oregon Coast, more known for Sand Dollars, and other treasures, rather than shells. You'll find you have a bit of competition for both shells and sand dollars because the Seagulls are also searching for them.

After storm you could discover many types of fossils, which fossilized shells of clams and snails. Then, there are those special moments when find whale bones, fish teeth, and turtle shells. Most of the treasures we find become works of art, and the smaller pieces are ideal for working into a necklace or other jewelry. Some of the spots that are good for finding fossils include: Arcadia Beach State Recreation Site, Barview Jetty County Park, Fogarty Creek State Park, Newport’s Nye Beach, as well as Seal Rock. Among the best place to find driftwood and other treasures are Bullards Beach State Park, Battle Rock Park, Gold Beach, Whaleshead, and Lone Ranch.

The best part of exploring Oregon's coast are the friendly people, who share the interesting stories. Along with searching for treasures, you can also fish, and find other recreation activities to enjoy. Scuba diving is also another great way to explore the coast, and you never know what you might find, which makes it even more exciting.
