A visit to Vermont is like opening a unexpected gift from a friend... you never know what you might discover. From a to the Lamoille Valley, where we found unique antique shops to the annual Strolling of the Heifers Festival, Vermont is full of surprises.
What makes a trip for antiques in Vermont special is that many of the antique collections are housed in restored barns and homes, which provide a quaint look into the rich history of local towns. Several shops including By Vermont Hands, Smugglers' Forge Crafts and Antiques and Mountain Rose also feature the works of local artisans and craftspeople including quilts, furniture, jewelry, pottery, folk art, stained glass, wood carvings and crafts and decorative accessories.
Travel to Lamoille Valley on the hunt for antiques and you'll find country and Victorian pieces of furniture, wagons, quilts, pottery and so much more. Whether you drop by Buggyman Antiques in Johnson or the Smugglers' Notch Antique Center, we were amazed to find affordable and unique pieces to add to our collection. Of course it's hard to resist the temptation to start a new collection after visiting all the unique shops.
The 1837 House, home to over thirty independent antique dealers has thousands of square feet of antiques housed in a turn-of-the-century barn. Not far away is Waterville's historical village where we discovered the Covered Bridge Shop which specializing in Vermont bridge information, crafts and unique gifts and antiques. And, along the way you find many festivals to join as well.
The Annual Strolling of the Heifers Parade and Festival features four days of good old-fashioned fun in beautiful southern Vermont. This internationally renowned event which includes the Heifer Stroll, the Green Mountain State's light-hearted version of Spain's famous running of the bulls takes place in early June.
Sponsored by Turkey Hill Dairy, the Annual Strolling of the Heifers Festival kicks off National Dairy month. In addition to the parade, the festival includes a delightful Dairy Fest & Marketplace; a tongue-in-cheek, black-and-white Heifer Ball; a Best Chefs of Vermont Pavilion & Celebration; and tours of leading local farms.
