Taps On The Square Held In Martinsville

Join Taps on the Square in Martinsville Indiana

This Friday night, like each to come, a group is dedicated Buglers gather with caring community members for the playing of Taps on the Square. The weather was warm and without rain as we gathered on the corner of Indiana and Ohio St. just across from the Court House. Before the ceremony we took time to admire the black granite memorials in honor of our services men and women, one for each war or conflict. The memorial park touches your heart as you pause to read the dedications.

Promptly at 6:55pm, the Buglers gather, the role call is about to begin. Standing at attention are volunteers who salute and stand at read as names are called, and a solumn bell ring out for each one utter. At times, families and friends gather to hear their loved ones name, no one is left behind.

Once the names are called a lone bugler begins, then another joins in just moments later, and another. Three buglers are playing Taps now, echoes of the music spread across the square. Suddenly, the nearby churches bells toll at 7pm, adding a deeper meaning to the gathering, time waits for no one. It is only those left behind for whom time goes on, marking the memories shared with those who have given everything in service.
