Sioux Falls, South Dakota offers adventure and exciting events and attractions to explore year-round. It is also home to Native America's, who share their heritage through their creative works like those joining the annual Northern Plains Indian Art Market. This four day event takes place in Mid September includes Northern Plains art, music, dance, philosophy, educational events, and a Wacipi pow wow.


The western heritage and lifestyle is presented at the Prairie Star Gallery that is filled with centuries-old art forms displayed in a beautiful century-old building. On exhibit are works by local and national indigenous Native American artists. The Prairie Star Gallery is a wonderful places to learn about customs, culture, traditions and life ways of authentic Plains Indian Art.


To discover the the history and cultures of the Northern Plains plan a visit to the Center For Western Studies at the Augustana College. Here, you'll find a extensive library of over 500 substantive collections and over 36,000 volumes on the American West. The Center has three permanent exhibits and display cases throughout the galleries featuring treasures from the Center's Collections including letters and signature of Abraham Lincoln, Thomas Jefferson and more.


And, if you're planning to visit Sioux Falls in Mid February be sure to join the Artists of the Plains; a three day event at the Holiday Inn City Centre that features 24 Northern Plains artists. During the event Artists' work will be on display and for sale, and there will be classes and lectures by participating artists during the art show.


Beyond Sioux Falls Arts


After exploring the regional arts find nature in flight at the Sertoma Butterfly House and Purdy Marine Cove. The Sertoma Butterfly House is amazing habitat has over 800 free flying butterflies from around the world is a tropical setting that is 70°-80° tropical weather year round. And, at the Purdy Marine Cove you'll discover hundreds of vibrant marine animals in nearly 2,500 gallons of saltwater and freshwater aquariums.


Families will enjoy racing along on high-powered E85 Go-karts at Thunder Road. From mini-golf and climbing walls, to Euro Bungy and human foosball, there's plenty of adventure and fun for family and friends to enjoy at Thunder Road.


Newly renovated, the St. Joseph Cathedral is a 1916-1919 Romanesque and French Renaissance structure, and the tours are a great way to learn about the beauty and history of the Cathedral and Sioux Falls.


Sports fans can cheer on the teams during the 3 day annual competitive soccer tournament hosted by the Dakota Alliance Soccer Club in Early June. This is the largest soccer event in the history of Sioux Falls, with up to 212 teams registered, which is 48 more than the Midwest Regional.


Along with many more attractions to see, there are also festive events, and performances scheduled throughout the year. So you'll always experience something new when you visit Sioux Falls!
