The Storybook Sculpture Project is the largest public collection of storybook sculptures in any city. These sculpture are among the favorite sites to see for many folks visiting the heart of Abilene’s revitalized downtown. Don't worry about missing them because there is currently 35 statues created in conjunction with The Children’s Art and Literacy Festival (CALF.)  Of special interest are The Cat in the Hat, Wilbur & Charlotte, and Dinosaur Bob along with many other beloved characters from iconic storybooks to snap photos of during your trip!



The Grace Museum in beautiful Downtown Historic Abilene, weaves art, science and history into intriguing tale we can all enjoy. They also have wonderful programs like those in which children can create a special free make-n-take project in their Rock 'n' Roll Diner located on the second floor just outside the Children's Museum. Then, there are the amazing exhibitions like the one to celebrate Youth Art Month in Feb. that will showcase the art of nearly 800 students from the region. - Imagine how excited they are to be showcased in a museum!

While on your visit to Abilene be sure to visit the National Center for Children’s Illustrated Literature (NCCIL) that was founded in 1997. Since then, it has featured the works of award-winning children’s books illustrators and authors, like Dr. Seuss and Berenstain Bears authors Stan, Jan and Michael Berenstain, and Charlotte’s Web illustrator Garth Williams.
