South Dakota Buffalo Roundup

Where buffalo roam

Did you know that agriculture is the number one industry in South Dakota? As such, there are many opportunities to experience the serenity of rural life with a trip to one of the many local farms or ranches. Fall is also the time to bring in the herds. And. at the Custer State Park you can join the Buffalo Roundup, which is a thrilling event to experience. Cowboys, cowgirls and park rangers round up Custer State Park's approximately 1,500 bison each fall, and you can feel the intensity of their beautiful creatures as they thunder across the fields.

From the Black Hills to the rolling countryside's of South Dakota, you'll discover natural beauty and many festivals events to enjoy on your trip. Fall is one of my favorite times of the year, and in South Dakota, it's a time to celebrate the season with great foods and entertainment. Of course, it is one of the best times to enjoy the oranges, reds and gold's of fall in South Dakota's Black Hills, where the season enhances the natural beauty of the region.

While joining the many festivities in the region, take time to get out and enjoy the variety of recreation the state offers. There are scenic hiking trails and picture perfect waterfalls like the Spearfish Falls in Spearfish Canyon Roughlock Falls and Bridal Veil Falls are surrounded by splashes of marvelous fall color.

Cast a line in the Missouri River, which divides South Dakota's rolling farmland in the east and open prairie and the Black Hills in the west. Or, check in with a local guide who can offer insight into the state's intriguing Native American and Old West history.

Whether you wander the countryside and visit local festivals and farms, or fish along the Missouri River, South Dakota is a extraordinary destination with so much to experience!
