With many public and semi-private golf courses, Delaware has become recognized as a golfer’s paradise. The links-style Back Creek Golf Club in Middletown is one of newest upscale championship courses to be built in Delaware. The links-style course, about 25 minutes south of Wilmington, features rolling rye grass fairways, bent grass greens, and 83 fairway bunkers in a variety of shapes. Back Creek has been rated by Golf Week magazine as one of the top 100 modern golf courses in the states!
Frog Hollow Golf Club nearby is a championship, 18-hole course, 10 minutes south of Back Creek. Frog Hollow Golf Club combines a links and parkland style. Its characteristics include bent grass tees, bunkers, and rolling fairways complimented by Kentucky Blue Grass roughs.
Located 15 miles northwest of Rehoboth Beach off of Route 24 in Long Neck, Baywood Greens offers a country club-like course, which Chesapeake Golfer dubbing it as the - Augusta of the North. The Woodside and Waterside courses comprise 18 holes of what will eventually be a 27 hole complex. The course fairways and greens are bent grass with sodden roughs of tall fescue. Full practice amenities include an all-weather driving range fairway.
Vacationer's who are new to the sport of Golf can learn a few tricks and get in a quick round is The Heritage Inn and Golf Club. The terrain at the Heritage Inn and Golf Club is open and flat, and features a island green, and a nine-hole regulation golf course. Located on Route 1 in Rehoboth Beach, the Heritage Inn, a 80-room hotel, and the option for a game of Golf make this a great getaway choice.
Another excellent spot for novice golfers is Marsh Island Golf Club, a 4,500-yard course in Angola, about 5 miles northwest of Rehoboth Beach. Its 18 holes provide a wide degree of variation and challenge as the course rolls past ponds, wooded wetlands, and more than 47 bunkers.
