Veterans Healing Arts: Recovery is a Journey

Healing Arts Wall: Recovery is a Journey, Not a Destination

We are proud of our family and friends who have served  our country. As a Veteran, Leroy sought treatment at the Veterans Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana that has many services available within their campus. In addition to meeting with doctors and nurses, Veterans can find dental care, medical treatments, physical therapy, mental health services, and more care.

During his treatments, I explored the additional services available and along the way discovered artwork by Vets. Among the works is the Healing Arts Wall: Recovery is a Journey, Not a Destination. “These words describe the ever-changing journey of many of our nation’s Veterans in seeking meaningful and fulfilling lives coping with serious physical and mental health conditions.”

These works of art remind me that healing is challenging, for veterans, and all those who support them.

These works of art remind me that healing is challenging, for veterans, and all those who support them. Each experience is unique, and the staff I met at the Veterans Hospital understood these challenges and the emotional weight of illness. Good news or bad, they were there and I  thank them for their care, time, and support that reminds me that healing takes a team effort.

No one has to face these challenges alone. Although, when it comes to the hardest choices for care that is how it can feel. This is the time to ask a care coordinator about the many services available. Wherever you are along your healing journey someone is there to talk to about your needs, your thoughts and experiences.

988 is available 24/7 for anyone to call, text, or chat online. Veterans can dial 988 and Press 1 to connect with the Veterans Crisis Line.

Often, the hardest part of care happens away from the hospital, when stress becomes overwhelming. For those exact moments, 988 is available 24/7. Anyone can call, text, or chat online to start a conversation—and Veterans can dial 988 and Press 1 to connect directly with the Veterans Crisis Line. The trained staff is there to listen and help.
