Shellcast Visits Fort Myers Manatee Park

Shellcast Visits Fort Myers' Manatee Park

Time for a beach break for our ears, a episode of Shellcast, which gives us listeners a moment along the sun soaked coast of Florida. We love how the episodes have been recorded around the region of Lee County. The show has featured the area’s many attractions and activities since June 2020.

Speaking of traveling around, in Episode 9, “When I get older, I want to be a manatee,” they visit Manatee Park at 10901 Palm Beach Boulevard in Fort Myers, Florida. In this podcast they speak to Laura Carr, a specialist at Lee County Parks & Recreation. She is just the person to speak to to learn about these super-sized vegetarians that seek warm-water refuge within the 17-acre county park.

When the water temperature in the Gulf of Mexico drops, manatees make their way to the park’s canal via Pine Island Sound, the Caloosahatchee River and the Orange River. To see a manatee is a moment of amazement, and a must-see while visiting the area.
