Imagine riding border to border from Mexico to
Canada, and up the spine of the American West. This is what four
fresh-out-of-college buddies did in this stunning documentary, UNBRANDED.
The story of Ben Masters, Thomas Glover, Jonny Fitzsimons and Ben Thamer is
the winner of the Audience Awards from Hot Docs Canadian International
Documentary Film Festival. With 16 Mustangs chosen and trained for this
purpose, one of the film's goals is to inspire the adoptions of the 50,000
wild horses living in holding pens in the American West.
The training for this amazing adventure took place in Texas. The ride its self took five and a half months, and led the riders through Arizona, Utah, Idaho, Wyoming and Montana, and through the beautiful landscapes of Yellowstone, the Grand Canyon and Glacier National Park. This men raised funding for their adventure with a successful Kickstarter campaign with 1062 backers contributing $171,000. It goes to show that with perseverance you can accomplish any goal, and raise awareness on our fragile ecosystem and save wild horses.
Along the way, the support they receive from others, including a veteran horseman and cowboy poet whose life has been deeply connected to horses and the back country, creates a meaningful bond among the men and the animals. With exquisite cinematography of breathtaking terrain from the Grand Canyon to Yellowstone to Glacier Park, UNBRANDED offers both an edge-of-your-seat, death-defying intensity as well as captivating and immersive experience of a journey through a stretch of North America most people never have an opportunity to experience.
