When
visiting downtown Charlottesville you'll discover it is one of
the cities where American history roots run deep. Stroll the
city on a walking tour and step back in time, head to Thomas
Jefferson's home at Monticello, or visit his lasting academic
legacy at the University of Virginia. Along with historic
treasure to enjoy, Charlottesville has a thriving arts
community, and is also known as a retreat for many authors,
musicians, and actors. And, what do they enjoy doing when
they're not performing; eating a delicious meal, of which there
are many choices of fine restaurants in Charlottesville.
Among the popular dining choices is Fellini's No. 9, located at 200 West Market Street, which offers traditional Italian menu selections, and entertainment. Prefer a quiet, cozy place offering a casual dining experience, then visit The Backyard at 20 Elliewood Avenue. Here, you'll find great lunch choices and tempting selections for every taste.
Perhaps, you're in the mood for some fresh California style Mexican food. If so, then then Baja Bean Co., located at 1327 W. Main Street offers perfect portions and fresh fruit margarita's in their festive family friendly restaurant. Not far away at 109 2nd St SE, is The Box, which presents a wonderful selection of Pan-Asian American entrees made from local and organic ingredients.
While in Downtown Charlottesville’s you can visit the Hamiltons’ that is ideal for a savory lunch or a romantic dinner. Relax on the outdoor patio and take in the charming city while enjoying contemporary American cuisine prepared by Chef de Cuisine Jeanette Peabody at The Hamiltons’. Visit on a Saturday night and you'll hear moving Jazz tunes by guitarist Peter Richardson and clarinetist Dave Kannahnson. Look for their album “Saturday Nights at Hamiltons’” that features Dave’s American and Latin jazz compositions.
Among the delicious selection for lunch is the Pan Roasted Jumbo Lump Crab cake with a Lemon-Basil Aioli that is served over Jasmine Rice, and a Sauté of Fresh Corn, Tomato and Basil. Or, for dinner enjoy the Grilled Aged Prime Beef Tenderloin with White Truffle Butter, fluffy Garlic Whipped Potatoes, served with Asparagus and a Burgundy Reduction.
Whether you dine at The Hamiltons’ or visit one of Downtown Charlottesville’s other fine restaurants, you're certain to enjoy a memorable dining experience! While in Charlottesville and Albemarle County you can also tour and enjoy tastings at more than 20 vineyards along the Monticello Wine Trail. If you prefer hops there are several small award-winning breweries along the Brew Ridge Trail to visit as well.
