Oklahoma Travel Guide
Oklahoma became the 47th state in 1907. The state was part of the Louisiana Purchase, and known as the Indian Territories because over 30 Native American Tribe's were relocated there. Many Indians, forced from their lands, died along the “Trail of Tears” and never made it to the Indian Territories. During this time the land was opened to settlers in land runs, and those who rushed across the borders sooner than the government allowed became known as Sooners, of which is how the state got its nickname, The Sooner State. Oklahoma's nature beauty, historic treasures, recreation, and vibrant cities drawn travelers back every year to discover more!
