G. Michael’s Bistro & Bar is located just south of Downtown Columbus in historic German Village. Alice and I discovered it while shopping along South Third St. in this wonderful area. I contacted Chef David Tetzloff and talked with him about the type of food they served and I made reservations.
The cuisine has what Chef David Tetzloff calls a lot of Southern influence, blended with some French technique. Chef Tetzloff’s liking for preparing seafood comes from his time in Charleston, South Carolina, where he studied at Johnson and Wales University in 1995.
We arrived at G. Michael’s and immediately we noticed that we were underdressed for the occasion. But we soon found out that it did not matter to employees of this of this fine restaurant. Mr. G. Michael’s himself showed us to our table and treated us like we were his very best patrons. The place was wonderfully decorated and the atmosphere was no less than elegant.
G. Michael’s menu changes four times a year, along with the changing of the seasons. They like to use fresh local meats and vegetables whenever possible, Chef Tetzloff says the fresher the ingredients the better the outcome. He was definitely right; we had one of the best meals we have in a very long time. Our dining experience was no less than superb, the personnel were the very best, and the evening was the best thanks to G. Michael’s Bistro & Bar.
