Join The USA Indoor Track And Field Championships, Cruise On A Segway, And Enjoy More Than Imagined In Albuquerque

While in Albuquerque take time to get out and enjoy a tours of this historic city. One fun way to do this is zipping around Downtown on a Segway.

Not sure about riding a Segway? Don't worry your tour guides are professionals who will teach you the simple techniques to enjoy thrilling mode of transportation. We were on a group tour and our friends took a Segway tour, and loved it! From what they described you simply lean forward to move ahead, backward to go in reverse, and side to side to turn. Sounded easy enough. Well, it was. We were zipping along moments after stepping onto the Segway, and what fun is was to tour the town.

Whether you take a Segway Tour or head out on your own, Albuquerque has many historic treasures to explore. The Plaza to Plaza Tour is a trail which connect the plazas of Downtown and Old Town. What was once a small 18th-century settlement is now a thriving city with many tales to tell. The public plaza are a hub for festive activities and social gathering. Throughout the area you'll find artists and unique boutiques that express the mix of cultures found in Albuquerque.

In the historic heart of Albuquerque is the Old Town Plaza where the day seems longer; giving you time to embrace the moment with family and friends. Here you'll find the beautiful San Felipe Neri Church that was built in 1793, and plenty of shops, galleries, restaurants and cafés where you can sample a taste of local food, and mingle with the locals. While in Old Town drop by the Visitor Center in Plaza Don Luis across from the San Felipe Church. This is a great place to start because you can learn more about Old Town Plaza, plan a visit to one of the seven museums, and visit other historic sites located within the area.

History is certain to be made when the USA Indoor Track & Field Championships arrive in Albuquerque, New Mexico over the next three years, and conclude with the Indoor Visa Championship Series. These events will take place at the End of each February through 2012. U.S. athletes competing for a total prize purse of $117,000 each year will have the opportunity to qualify for Team USA events like the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Doha, Quatar, and the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Istanbul, Turkey.

Albuquerque’s portable indoor track features a red and white Mondo surface that is state-of-the-art with 6-36” 200-meter lanes on the 60-degree banked oval, 8- 42” 60-meter straightaway lanes running the entire length of the infield which are also the surface for the high jump. This includes two jumping runways and pits, areas for shot put, weight throw, pole vault, and high jump events. These will be a thrilling events for not only athletes as well as sports fans.
