Getaways At The Historic Mackinac Island Grand Hotel
The Grand Hotel is the world’s largest summer hotel, and has welcomed guests
since 1887. The hotel is a iconic destination recognized around the world
for it's hospitality and dedicated staff. Since it has been operated by the
same family for 96th seasons, who have maintained the hotel's ambiance and
character through the years.
Grand Hotel features more than three dozen historic suites at the hotel named after former U.S. Presidents, First Ladies and other historical times and individuals. Each named suite features a distinct thematic design, furnishings and ambiance that accurately capture the place, time and lifestyle suggested in the names.
They have also completed the Musser Suite, which is named for the late Grand Hotel Chairman R. D. “Dan” Musser Jr., who played a key role at the hotel from 1951 until his passing one year ago. The one-bedroom suite is located on the fourth floor of the Grand Hotel, and offers spectacular views of the Mackinac Bridge and the entire Straits of Mackinac.
“My father and I had talked about making this addition for about 20 years and it is finally happening,” said Grand Hotel President R. D. “Dan” Musser III. “I am pleased to be able to start the project this year and to name it in his honor.” The Grand Hotel will also add seven additional two-bedroom suites to the historic hotel over the next three years that gives guests more options for their vacation at this historic gem.
Other improvements at the hotel include renovation of the Front Desk, and a new bar at The Jockey Club at the Grand Stand. Businesses and Event Coordinator's can take advantage of the upgraded AV system in the hotel Theatre. The Grand Hotel is now offering new Titleist golf clubs at The Jewel. And, has added three new hackney horses to its stable.
This National Historic Landmark has been a summer retreat for generations of families, and offers a number of packages throughout the season that runs from May thru October. Among the popular packages is the “Titanic at the Grand” weekend, which previously occurred during the opening weekend, has been moved to May 30-June 1 this year. Guests will be able to celebrate the history, majesty and intrigue of the RMS Titanic. Grand Hotel will be transformed into the doomed passenger steamship for the weekend with hotel guests taking on the roles of actual Titanic passengers. Titanic historian Parks Stephenson will speak about his 2005 dive to the Titanic’s wreckage.

The Grand Garden Show mid August will be held in partnership with Proven Winners, the world’s number one plant brand, and will include programs in the Grand Hotel Tea Garden and tours of 12 private gardens on Mackinac Island.
The Live Healthy Live Grand Weekend package for the dates of also in mid August is the continuation of a well-received, four-year partnership with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan (BCBSM), to provide healthy eating and recreation options for Grand Hotel guests. Health and wellness experts from BCBSM have worked with Grand Hotel to create an informative and enjoyable weekend that will include healthy drinks and hors d'oeuvre selections at the Friday Welcome Reception. Saturday programming includes sunrise yoga, fitness hikes, health screenings, and programs from health and wellness experts and concludes with a special cookout dinner Saturday evening.

The hotel continues another tradition when it hosts its annual Somewhere In Time celebration on its closing weekend mid October, followed by the Close the Grand for the Season event in late October .
The Grand Hotel is located on Mackinac Island, Michigan where there are no motorized vehicles and the island is only accessible by ferry or airplane. The hotel continues to be recognized for the quality of its hospitality, which includes the Michigan AAA Four Diamond Award, and is the 19th consecutive year the hotel has won the award!
