Circle City Classic

A Circle City Classic Weekend In Indianapolis

A Circle City Classic Weekend In IndianapolisThe 28th Annual Circle City Classic at the Indiana Convention Center and Lucas Oil Stadium was a weekend full of a lot of fun and exciting festivities for everyone; young, old and in-between!

Tens of Thousands of people visited the great city of Indianapolis to enjoy all the excitement that the Circle City Classic in joint collaboration between the Indiana Black Expo, Inc. and Indiana Sports Corporation had to offer.

The entire weekend was exhilarating as there was plenty of exciting activities to attend! There were concerts with awesome super entertainers like Frankie Beverly and Maze, Bow Wow and Monica; they also had a Classic Cabaret and some hilarious Comedians. There were Pep-Rallies, Musical Performances and the ultra-famous Classic Parade, which I have to tell you is like no other parade you will ever see with a lot of soul and outstanding drum-lines and dance, they also had the ever so popular, have to love it “Battle of the Bands” to enjoy as well.

Then we must not forget the best of all “FOOTBALL”! And some great football we got as these games were awesome! First you had the high school games taking it to wire in the last quarter and then the college games set several Circle City Classic records! What great, well played Classic weekend games!

The high school games were, as always, exhilarating and exciting to watch! Warren Central Warriors took on their old rivals the Carmel Greyhounds Friday night in a classic match-up. These two teams took it down to the wire in the 4th quarter when the Warriors stepped it up a notch and took the Greyhounds out with an exciting win of 22 to 20. What a great game.

Congratulations to the Warrior for a great win!

A Circle City Classic Weekend In Indianapolis

Saturday’s college games were just as exciting as two of America’s historical black universities, Kentucky State University Thoroughbreds took on Albany State University Golden Rams with some great, and I do mean “great” play action!

These teams played tough and played hard as this game was a record setting game for the Circle City Classics. First, you had Senior Raphael Amey set the Circle City Classic record for the most receptions of 14, and the most reception yards of 234 yards, and both records were his career-high. He was also named the Heritage Sports Radio Network player of the game.

Then you had player Keith Massey set a record for the most individual return yards with 243 and it was also his career-high in game kick returns, along with it being a season-high for Massey with 8 total returns. These two college teams together set the Circle City Classic record for the most combined return yards of 441.

Another record setter was Quarterback Jerrel Noland; he set the Circle City Classic record for passing attempts of 65 and he tied the record for the most completions with 36. These were both career-highs for Noland. He also threw for 433 passing yards, which was also a career high for Noland as well. This game was very exciting to watch had a lot of game action and Albany State Golden Rams took the big “WIN” with a score of 57 to 31.

Congratulations to both teams for a well played, very eventful and exciting game!

Giving Back

Supporting Youth Organizations

Although these football games and all the other events were awesome and exciting, this weekend was also a weekend that honored heroes and legends as well. Indiana Black Expo, Inc. and the Indiana Sports Corporation together have also done exceptional work using the net proceeds from the Classic to help support youth organizations.

They have awarded over $1 million in scholarships to youths who attend colleges and universities. In addition to scholarships the Classic’s educational partner, the Indianapolis Black Alumni Council, host an educational college fair that exposes over 2,500 youth to colleges and universities with scholarship opportunities exceeding $3 million.

Thanks to everyone who made this a Great Classic Weekend!
