April 20, 2001, Indiana selected the No. 3 pick in the 2001 WNBA Draft;
the No. 3 pick was none other than Tamika Catchings. The Indiana Fever
knew she was good, but didn’t realize when they made their pick, that
she would be one of the best WNBA players of the last decade.
This No. 3 draft pick after making it to the pro’s, ended up missing all of the 2001 season due to a college injury, but when she made her pro debut she and the Fever team won with a 79 to 62 win over the Shock and with that, she had her first Fever game win.
As a rookie she went on to set many records during her career with many franchise records, and WNBA records in all the various categories. She made Player of the week and Player of the Year many times in her 10 year career, making her a very valuable player for the Indiana Fever.
When it came to the Playoffs, Tamika and the Fever team defeated the New York Liberty with a 73-54 win on August 16th, 2002 for their first playoff game win in Fever history. Tamika scored 29 points and was honored as the WNBA’s Rookie of the Year with that game.
Tamika continued throughout her career setting more records and getting more of the Player of the week and Player of the year awards and on August 6th, 2010 became the first player in WNBA history to score 4,500 points, grab 2,000 rebounds and hand out 1,000 assists.
Tamika Catchings the No. 3 Draft pick has been an outstanding ball player over the last 10 years and has played hard and she has played tough and she has the stats throughout her career that show just how good she is.
Other memorable moments in Tamika Catchings career is on August 23, 2008 in Beijing China Tamika captured a second Olympic gold medal as the United States beat Australia, 92-65.
