    Enjoy A Festive Year Of Events In Colorado Springs

    From the Great Fruitcake Toss to a Mumbo Jumbo Gumbo Cookoff and Donkey Derby Days; Colorado Springs has a festive celebrations to join year-round! Starting in Early January you will find yourself laughing silly at the Great Fruitcake Toss Competition that includes hand throwing cakes or a special category that includes using a homemade device to launch the fruitcake. If you bring your own Fruitcake you can join in the fun of tossing, hurling and launching these wonderful, colorful and completely inedible cakes.

    Savor the flavor of Colorado Springs at the Mumbo Jumbo Gumbo Cookoff, which takes place every weekend in February before Fat Tuesday. A festive Carnivale Parade will also celebrate the occasion, as the areas fabulous chefs from various area restaurants compete with their famous secret recipes followed by a festive ode to Mardi Gras.

    As spring blossoms in May so do the celebrations at the Pikes Peak Western Heritage Days , which is a entire summer’s worth of family fun featuring rodeos, train rides, gold mine tours, historical reenactments, parades, a Race to the Clouds, a county fair and even a donkey derby. This summer's events start in May and run through August with events showcasing the western heritage of the cowboy, gold mining, geological and American Indian heritage in Colorado Springs.

    Not far away in Cripple Creek takes place the Donkey Derby Days that is a favorite event for people from around the globe, who gather to see residents “race” the local donkeys down Main Street. During the festivities there will also be plenty of food, activities and various vendors to browse. Did you Know? This year will be the 80th anniversary of Donkey Derby Days; a fun, crazy, and wild event for the entire family.

    Imaginations take flight at the Colorado Balloon Classic that takes to the skies over this coming Labor Day Weekend. Voted one of the top 100 events in the United States by the National Tour Association, the Colorado Balloon Classic first began in 1977. Since then it has grown to be the largest and the longest continuously running hot air balloon festival in the Rocky Mountain Region as well as the State of Colorado, and the best part is this is a Free Annual Event everyone will enjoy!
