As
the growing season takes root so do the number of Farm's
and Markets offering fresh produce and treats for every
taste. It is also a wonderful time to visit local
festivals and fairs that include entertainment, music,
crafts, and delicious foods to sample, so here are some
ideas to get you on your way as you travel about
Alabama.
The Pepper Place Saturday Market runs through October in Birmingham. This event includes a local farm tour to the residents and restaurateurs of the community - providing access to the freshest vegetables and homemade goods from the hands of those who produce them. Local musicians will provide a variety of entertainment on two separate venues and there is a weekly local Chef's Demonstration featuring the day's fresh vegetables in their recipes.
Refreshments will be available from local vendors - serving the best coffees, teas, pastries and sandwiches. While choosing your fresh vegetables and fruits, stroll through the tents of local artisans and pick up a few homemade soaps, lotions or hand-turned bowls or art for your walls at home or for the garden.
Fresh produce and FREE entertainment can be found at the Spring Park Market that takes place every Thursday through Mid September at the Spring Park in Tuscumbia, from 4 – 7 p.m. The open-air market is Free and features fresh fruit, vegetables, herbs, local processed foods as well as free entertainment and food demonstrations each week. Park downtown and ride the trolleys down to the park. Pick ups are available in front of the Palace and the ColdWater Bookstore, Tuscumbia, which are both located on Main Street.
