Hunting Waterfowl
In Grand Island and Hall County |
|
As hunting
season kicks in you may be looking for a new destination to explore. Hunting is
allowed on public lands in Grand Island and Hall County during the season, and
year-round on all state wildlife management areas. Of course, unless it is
otherwise posted. In Nebraska state recreation areas hunting begins the day
after Labor Day through April 1. Nebraska is nationally known for it's vast
population (hundreds of thousands) of ducks and geese. Two of Nebraska's most
popular waterfowl areas are the Rainwater Basins, which is a 17 county area in
south central Nebraska, and the Platte River located in the central Nebraska
region.
Nebraska richly deserves its reputation for world-class pheasant hunting.
Outdoorsmen bag about 700,000 of the prized game birds each season. In wet
years, ducks and geese flourish in the Rainwater Basin of south-central
Nebraska. Action on Canada geese in the Sandhills lakes is an early-season
draw, while the central and western valleys of the South and the North Platte
Rivers yield excellent winter hunting. |
