Planning a visit to Delaware is simple with the variety of vacation packages available at the Delaware Tourism Office's website. The Brandywine Valley Escape Package offers travelers a night in a Deluxe Guestroom, plus admission for two to Longwood Gardens, a beautiful garden covering 1,050 acres. At the Longwood Gardens you'll also the Winterthur Museum where children can explore a magical children's garden called The Enchanted Woods. Packages can be customize to suit a travelers taste for adventure and length of stay. The Winterthur Museum & Country Estate is located on Rt. 52 in the Northern Region of Delaware in Wilmington. The museum and grounds are open 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday-Sunday.

  Wilmington & Western Railroad

For a spectacular view of the scenic Brandywine Valley, families can board a vintage locomotive at the Wilmington and Western Railroad in Wilmington. The railroad offers many events geared toward children, including civil war skirmish trains, hayrides, and holiday-themed rides such as the Fireworks Express and the holiday light train. Trains operate rain or shine from April-December.

While touring the Wilmington area drop by the Rockwood Mansion Park for a snack in the Victorian parlor the Butler's Pantry Self Service Cafe. The Rockwood Mansion Park, located at 610 Shipley Rd. (enter from Washington Street Extension) features a wonderful Victorian Mansion and park with gardenesque landscape. The tour hours are 10am-3pm. The Cafe is open 7am-5pm

Just a short distance away travelers will discover the Kalmar Nyckel Shipyard at 1124 E. Seventh St. in Wilmington. This living-history shipyard and museum is home of Delaware's Tall Ship Ambassador, the Kalmar Nyckel, an authentic re-creation of the historic vessel that brought the first European settlers to the Delaware Valley in 1638. Travelers can tour the ship and shipyard, which is also available for private charters, weddings and private functions.
