The Extreme? Find Heart-Pounding Thrills At Kings Island in Warren County, Ohio,
By: Josh (Ash) Schubert:
My
girlfriend and I set out to find extreme thrills with my brother, Nick. We
defied gravity in Florida on the Hulk at Universal, and living in Indiana it
may seem like we’re limited on places to soar to new heights. Not true. Just a
few hours drive away is Kings Island, which recently unveiled its 14th roller
coaster; the Firehawk.
If
you rode Kings Island's, Son Of Beast, that sends you screaming down it's
214-foot hill at speeds over 78 mph, then you’ll love the
Firehawk. Imagine soaring through more than ½ a mile of steel tracking
at 51 mph on a top-secret, all-altitude airborne mission, and doing while lying
down. It’s insane! Your heart will be pounding as you soar high, and then dip
down, facing the ground before flying through five inversions at speeds of more
than 50 mph.
Next we hit the Son Of Beast. It was thrilling,
and had many high drops and tight turns. The fact that it’s made of wood makes
the ride more raw and primal like its name suggest. While Son Of Beast is
considered the Tallest, and Fastest Wooden Coaster on the Planet, a visit to
Kings Island wouldn’t be complete without riding the roller that started it
all; The Beast, the World's Longest Wooden Roller Coaster. We went roaring
through the wilderness on 7,400 feet of track at speeds of over 60 mph
screaming our heads off as we sped through dark tunnels, and then hit
The Beast signature twin helix! The Beast was very
high and kind of scary at first until you hit the first turns and you forget
all about the big height of the ride. Once you ride it you’ll know why it’s
been named the best wooden roller coaster in the world by enthusiasts
everywhere!
Coaster Con Takes Flight At Kings Island
We’re not the only maniac’s who love
roller coaster. Kings Island is also the hosts to the
Annual National Roller Coaster Convention; Coaster Con. Over 500 members
from American Coaster Enthusiasts (ACE) head to the Coaster Con convention at
Kings Island to experience the park’s high-flying, gut-wrenching roller
coasters. This exclusive seven-day event takes members behind the scenes, and a
coveted twelve hours of Exclusive Ride Time on Kings Island’s fourteen
world-class roller coasters.
Delirium
on the other hand seemed very tame; let me tell you it is anything but. At
first I thought the ride was going to just swing, but when it started to spin I
laughed so hard. At one moment you’re suspended upside down, the next you are
rushing face-first toward the ground, and then nearly upside down again all in
seconds. It was like a giant tire swing, but a lot faster and bigger.
If
you have a weak stomach you may want to want until after riding the
Vortex to eat. The Vortex had so many loops and
turns my stomach felt sour, and I love these rides. The first loop made me
giggle like a little kid because it was so fast. It is one of the most intense
rides at Kings Island; with the most twisted track ever built. Get ready for a
wild ride as you whip along at speeds over 55 mph through 3,800 feet twist and
turns!
Ready To Face Your Darkest Fears?
The Flight of Fear has an amazing take off. It’s the fastest yet, and had intense curves that made me feel as though I was lost. I couldn’t see a thing, so every corner was a surprise. I really like hearing people scream there heads off while I’m on the ride. And who can blame them when you are catapulted from 0-60 mph in just 4 seconds through 4 inversions on the world's first linear induction launch coaster!
After you've faced your fear of heights and speed on the tracks plan to return to Kings Island in Late September through Late October for the Halloween Haunt.
