Experience
All Columbus, Ohio Has To Offer, By Charles Worley:
Besides serving as Ohio’s capital city, Columbus
also is the nation’s 15th largest city, with exciting annual festivals and
cultural events, and unique arts and entertainment opportunities. Columbus is
also home to the NHL’s Columbus Blue Jackets, Major League Soccer’s Columbus
Crew and Triple a baseball’s Columbus Clippers.
On our recent trip in Ohio, my wife, son and myself decided to “Experience Columbus” as the cities motto would say. We had a wonderful time there; the people were very friendly and helpful. We stayed at the La Quinta Inns & Suites, which is Spanish for “were glad you’re here” or was it “your satisfaction is our goal” or was it “travel made easy” well I speak a little Spanish, but not enough to understand what La Quinta means. But I do know that our room was very clean and spacious. The staff was some of the friendliest and most helpful that we have ever experienced. I would recommend that you should stay at the La Quinta Inn & Suites when you come to Columbus, Ohio.
The Columbus Zoo
My 15 year old son Tony and
myself visited the fantastic Columbus Zoo, the home of world famous Jack Hanna.
This world renounced adventured and traveler has helped to build one of the
best Zoo adventures that I have ever seen. They’ve brought millions
face-to-face with gorillas, manatees and wild animals of every kind. And
treated millions more to the fascinating animals from around the world. Their
newest addition to the Zoo is their Asia Quest; it is a wonderful and exciting
river trip through the heart of the Asian interior. They have a beautiful
Aquarium at the Zoo, where you can see some of the oceans creatures close up
and personal. On our way out of the Zoo we encountered a gaggle of geese that
decided to escort us from the lake to one of the inner ponds. Our visit to the
Columbus Zoo was an experience that my son and I will not soon forget.
After returning to the Inn, Tony
said he wanted to stay and watch some TV, but I think he was tired of hanging
with old dad. When dinnertime came Alice and I decided we would eat at a local
favorite of much Columbus residence. The
City Barbeque in
Columbus, Ohio is one of the very best barbeque restaurants that I have
ever had the opportunity to eat at. It was the drive of President & Co-founder
Rick Malir and some talented Pit Masters to create and to discover America’s
original food. Manager Shawn Jackson who is a Certified Barbeque Judge treated
us to their award winning Beef Brisket.
We also enjoyed their Pulled Pork, Smoked Chicken Breast, and many other delicious treats. My wife said that their Ice Tea was the very best she has ever tried. I could not empty my mouth long enough to give her an answer so I just nodded my head. But I can say in all honesty that when you travel to Columbus, Ohio to be sure to enjoy a fabulous meal at one of the 4 locations of City Barbeque around the city.
The Columbus Santa Maria
On our last day in Tony and I decided to visit the Downtown area of Columbus, only to discover the ship that brought this city’s namesake to America. The Columbus Santa Maria is the world’s most authentic, museum-quality representation of Christopher Columbus’s flagship. It was built in 1991 by Scarano Boatbuilding Inc. of Albany, New York. After touring the visitor center and meeting Executive Director Linda Ketcham, we were given a complete tour and history of the ship by a very knowledgeable young man who told us everything we needed to know about the Santa Maria and Christopher Columbus. We totally enjoyed our tour of the ship, and the wonderful people went on our visit.
