Explore Springfield's Historic Treasures & Hometown Charm,  By MSchubert

Among Springfield's historic treasure are sites making the passing of both Union and Confederate Soldiers on their way to the Battle of Perryville. Here you will find the spot where General Don Carlos Buell had his headquarters at the Elmwood Home, at which time he utilized Springfield as medical facility. Another historic highlight in Springfield, Kentucky is the historic John Hunt Morgan Heritage Trail, which features three detailed posts in downtown Springfield.

Travel Back In Time At The Lincoln Cabin   Springfield is also home to the Lincoln Cabin, a replica of the log house in which the President's grandmother raised her children. The cabin sits upon the exact spot as the original, and it was here that Thomas Lincoln, father of the President, lived until he was 25 years of age. The pioneer furnishing within the cabin, along with several pieces crafted by Thomas Lincoln give visitors the feeling of stepping back in time to a much simpler life.

Unwind At One Of Springfield's Peaceful Bed & Breakfast

Among the beautiful Bed & Breakfast located in Springfield, Kentucky are the 1851 Historic Maple Hill Manor, a stately mansion located on 14 tranquil acres in the Bluegrass country. Nearby is the Glenmar Plantation Bed & Breakfast, a late 1700s home located just off Hwy 150/Bluegrass Parkway in an historic area of Kentucky called Fredericktown. After a restful night in one of Springfield's Bed & Breakfast step out and enjoy the charm of this historic hometown where you'll find many great shops to explore. From unique crafts and gifts to antiques, Springfield has plenty of special shops to browse through. Historic towns are wonderful places to embrace the warm hospitality of the town folk; many of which have lived in the area all their lives, and wonderful stories to share.

Another way to enjoy a visit to Springfield is to visit the town during of the exciting festivals held throughout the year. Join the festivities at the Independence Day Celebration in July, the African American Heritage Festival in early August,  Washington County Sorghum Festival in early October and the Mackville Harvest Festival, which is held in Mid October.
