The Park Festival

Grandview Park Bandshell is home to one of the Midwest's premier music festivals: Gateway's Saturday In The Park Festival.

Durig this exciting event guests can enjoy the crafts, food, fun run, Kid's Zone, and what would a party be without beer garden? This musical celebration began as a mere thought of several friend's, who believe it would great to create a music festival in Sioux City, and hold it at the Bandshell. Sioux City Public Museum

Sioux City Public Museum While in Sioux City, Iowa visit the Public Museum, which also offers FREE admission on Tue - Sat 9-5, and Sunday 1-5. The Sioux City Public Museum, located at 2901 Jackson St, takes visitors back to the beginning of this frontier town at the edge of the Dakota Territory, and explores the region's Native American heritage in exhibitions dealing with the lives and material culture of the Lakota Sioux , Winnebago and Omaha tribes. Also on site is an early log cabin built in Nebraska and reconstructed in the museum. For more information call 712-279-6174

Sergeant Floyd River Museum & Welcome Center

When you board the M.V. Sergeant Floyd you'll find yourself taking a journey into the region's maritime history. Built in 1932 as an inspection boat by the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers, the Sergeant Floyd River Museum & Welcome Center chronicles the Missouri River's development as a major shipping route and the key to Sioux City's success in the early years of its founding. This is a great place where you can explore exhibitions on the Lewis & Clark Expedition, the fur trade, Sioux City's, evolution as a transportation hub and those rivercraft which still ply the waters of the Missouri river.

As an official Iowa and Nebraska Center, the center also provides travel planning for the tri-state region. The location provides views of the Missouri, picnic sites and access to the riverfront trail systems. The Galley Gift Shop features Sioux City souvenirs. Open daily 9am -6pm. The Sergeant Floyd River Museum & Welcome Center is located at 1000 Larson Park Rd on the riverfront . Exit 149 from I-29, Hamilton Blvd.

Artsplash

Artsplash Later in the summer (Labor Day Weekend) is a wonderful time to head down to the Anderson Dance Pavilion on the riverfront for Sioux City Art Center's annual festival held Labor Day weekend. The Artsplash draws over 90,000 visitors each year, who come to enjoy the abundance of original artwork from 95 juried artists, continuous main and children's stage performing arts, children's projects and unique foods.

Did You Know?

The inventors of Dairy Queen's soft-serve ice cream, J.F. "Grandpa" McCullough and his son, Alex, had been selling ice cream since they opened their store in Davenport, Iowa, in 1927. Shortly afterwards they opened several other locations in nearby Illinois, and the rest is history as they say. Today, the Davenport location is still in operation.
