Imagine skiing down a vertical drop of 4,128 feet; yes, it’s an intense
thrill to say the least. Nearby, just across the pass, Grand Targhee is
known for its heavy falls of extra-light powder. Head in-town to the Snow
King and you can take to the slopes at night-skiing. If you’re looking for
a extreme challenge turn to the professional mountain guides who will
provide more remote heli-skiing, and backcountry skiing and snowboarding
options.
As a winter sportsman’s paradise, Jackson Hole offer plenty of exciting
adventures to enjoy. Fine Nordic skiing conditions include publicly
maintained groomed trails as well as out-of-bound ski tours. There are a
variety of single- and multi-day snowmobile tours are available. A
favorite among travelers are those which take you into the heart of
Yellowstone National Park. A great way to get out and explore the natural
beauty of Wyoming’s winter landscape is via a snow coach ride. Or, how
about taking a cruise on a sled pulled by a pack of enthusiastic dogs;
Mush little doggy!
Did you know?
Jackson is home base for the International Pedigree Stage Stop Sled Dog
Race? This is the largest sled dog race in the lower 48 states.
We travel often, and one of our favorite activities is viewing the
wildlife native to the area we visit. Wyoming has beautiful woodlands and
wide-open space where Wildlife enthusiasts can sign up for special photo
safaris and expeditions through the National Parks and surrounding
National Forests. This is a unique opportunity to view animals like elks,
and those rarely seen elsewhere, including such large predators as the
grizzly bear and the wolf, in their natural habitats. Sleigh rides also
are available, including the best-known trek into the National Elk Refuge
where a herd of approximately 6,000 of the majestic animals spend the
winter.
