Savor A Taste Of Rock n' Roll and More In Oklahoma, By Melody Schubert

Okalahoma's eclectic music ranges from Woody Guthrie, to the Gap Band & The Flaming Lips. Musical stars from varied backgrounds have called Oklahoma home, among those are Oklahoma’s early Jazz musicians like the Oklahoma City Blue Devils. Music styles may change but the heart of the music remains true.

Oklahoma's Folk music scene is a highlight at events around the state. The biggest may might be the Woody Guthrie Folk Festival held yearly in Guthrie's hometown of Okemah in July. Performers from all over the world come to Okemah to celebrate the life and music of America’s troubadour. Popular musicians like Jimmy LaFave , Terri Hendrix, with Texas music legend Lloyd Maines, Bob Childers, the Red Dirt Rangers, and many others have taken the stage in the past. Folk Music lovers will find many musical events and festivals scheduled throughout the year like the upcoming Beavers Bend Folk Festival and Craft Show held in mid-November, which spotlights regional folkies on everything from banjos to washboards.

Music fans from all over gather in Early May for the Rose Rock Music Festival, a three-day festival featuring a wide range of musical entertainment, craft and food vendors, car show, parade and more. Held at 304 S Main St in Noble, Oklahoma, the Rose Rock Music Festival is a FREE event everyone will enjoy. The great American road trip has a special meaning to all those who have traveled along the fabulous Route 66 listening to their favorite tunes. Rolling on down the highway through Oklahoma one may not realize that this is the birth place of the road's architect, Cyrus Avery, who lived in Tulsa. The fabled "Main Street of America" crosses Oklahoma for 392-plus miles and it is along this stretch of highway that you’ll find neon-lit diners, drive-in theaters, mom-and-pop gas stations along with many of the famed Route 66 icons as well as museums dedicated to the highway.

Experience a fresh alternative with Oklahoma's Agritourism Destination. Since everybody needs a break now and then one way to getaway from your everyday life is to unwind at one of Oklahoma's Wineries. Grab the girls and spend the weekend touring one of Oklahoma's many vineyards and wineries. Many wineries provide a place to taste, select and bottle your own wine. Get even farther away from it all with a trip to a country bed and breakfast.

Foodies looking to sample Oklahoma's savory selections will enjoy the finger-licking diversity of down home county cooking across the state. Oklahoma's official state food is chicken-fried steak: Oklahoma beef, batter-fried and smothered in cream gravy. If you spot wood smoke curling into the sky and a parking lot full of pick-up trucks you've come across a barbecue "joint." Among the selections usually found cooking on the grill will be beef, pork and chicken smoked over hickory or mesquite and served up with white bread, coleslaw and delicious tangy sauce.
