Early in May the Las Cruces Railroad Museum will host the annual Railroad Day at the historic railroad depot in Las Cruces. During this weekend event there will be activities for train enthusiasts of all ages, including a special appearance by the New Mexico Rail Runner Express on Saturday. Built in 1880, the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad is a precious historic artifact of the American West, and one of the most spectacular examples of steam era mountain railroading in North America. Each May, a celebration is held to honor this jewel of the American West, leading up to a season-long celebration of train rides. Celebrations will be held for the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad in Chama, New Mexico and at the Antonito, Colorado depot.
