Barnwell Memorial Garden and Art Center Is Just The Beginning Of Sites To Visit In Shreveport, Louisiana, By Melody Schubert
Located at on the Clyde Fant Parkway in Shreveport, Louisiana is the Barnwell Memorial Garden and Art
Center that we visited with our friends before an evening of Mardi Gras celebrations.
Our journey started exploring the many things to do in Shreveport first.
Out On The Town In Shreveport -
If you're looking for something to do there's always something fun going on
along the Clyde Fant Parkway in Shreveport. This is where they hold festivals,
and is a major parade route during Mardi Gras season. Plus, you'll not only find
the Barnwell Memorial Garden and Art Center there, but just across the street is
Sci-Port, a fun and interactive Discovery Center the whole family can enjoy.
Just down the Clyde Fant Parkway are a number of Casinos, restaurants, and many
other sites to explore. If you have time be sure to travel across the Texas
Street Neon Bridge and visit the Louisiana Boardwalk for dinner and a show, or
just shop your little heart out!
Embrace The Arts At Barnwell Memorial Garden and Art Center -
This is the perfect place to view art
by inspiring artists, join fun programs, and enjoy the natural beauty of the
conservatory. Although it seems small compared to other garden spaces we
visited, the conservatory was one of my favorite spots because it was a
refreshing change from the harsh winter we've experienced in Indiana.
I could have spent hours just relaxing and exploring the diverse foliage and
tropical plants in the classic conservatory. And, it is truly a classic since
there are very few conservatory's in the nation with a large dome left, which
makes it even more charming and a perfect spot for weddings! I cannot forget the
beautiful gardens outside that showcase Artists Sculptures, and is as inviting
as Shreveport's Southern Hospitality!
What we enjoyed most about our visit to the Barnwell Memorial
Garden and Art Center was experiencing the works of local Artists.
One of the striking exhibits at the Barnwell Memorial Garden and Art Center
on exhibit in the Main Gallery throughout February is Zombies vs. Pirates - Line
Up, Shake Hands, Good Game, By Artist Dara Engler. Dara's bold portraits capture
humanity in a raw, and edgy way the draws your attention, and reminds us of
Picasso's extraordinary works. She is certainly one of the artist to keep an eye
on in the future!
The great programs scheduled like the Art After Hours on Thursday Nights are also a
exciting way to meet interesting people and tap into your own creativity. Be
sure to visit the store at the Barnwell Center that showcases one of a kind
contemporary creations and handmade works by Louisiana Artist.
