Chesterton, Indiana; The Home Of Oz and Recreation, By Melody Schubert

Oh my, it's hard to believe the Wizard of Oz Festival will no longer be held in Chesterton, Indiana. During the festival we meet the actual actors who played the Munchkins in the 1939 movie classic "The Wizard of Oz"! Every where we turned the magic of this classic movie came to life. Also among the notable folks in attendance are award-winning authors and Oz memorabilia collectors. Plus plenty of costumed characters that add to the memorable experience.

The Wizard of Oz Festival was filled with exciting events for families and anyone who treasures this magical Hollywood classic. People traveled from around the globe to participate in a weekend filled with Games, Arts and Crafts, special appearances by actors and celebrities. Visitors also played the part of their favorite characters, so we found plenty of interesting characters to share a magical moment with during the festivities.

Of course, Dorothy, her three best friends, and Toto were on-hand. Along with few witches, and a flock of flying monkeys, a magical Princess. Children especially enjoyed the Puppets, face painting, singers, entertainment held throughout the Wizard of Oz Festival. While the Wizard of Oz Festival has come to an end there's still the the Yellow Brick Road Gift Shop and the Oz Fantasy Museum to visit. While this festival has been postponed for the time being, perhaps a bit of magic will bring it back in the future.
