Dive
Into A Under World At The Florida Aquarium, By Leroy Worley
Where can you "Swim with the Fishes" in-water reef adventure and
encounter one of the Florida Keys' most beautiful coral reef dive sites
without being a certified scuba diver? The Florida Aquarium!
Swim with the Fishes
“Dive World” splashes down at The Florida Aquarium with the expansion
of Guest Dive Experiences where guests wear a small scuba tank,
regulator and floatation device that keeps them on the surface of the
water. This allows the thrill of scuba diving from the surface, while
enjoying all of the sights below. Swim provides a unique experience,
especially for kids, teaching the basic concepts of scuba and showing
the beauty of Florida's aquatic environments. Swim is for guests age 6
and older who are comfortable in the water.
Dive with the Sharks
For certified scuba divers age 15 and older, Dive with the Sharks is a
unique opportunity to come face-to-face with live sharks. Shark Bay, a
93,000 gallon tank, features nine sharks from around the world
including the intimidating Sand Tiger Shark. Sharks is designed to
dispel the commonly held myth that sharks are man-eaters and to convey
a strong conservation message to our guests. This is a special
extension of the Florida Aquarium's popular dive show "Sharks! From
Fear to Fascination is a adventure few will forget!"
Both of these immersive guest experiences are offered seven days a week
beginning in early April, with NAUI (National Association of Underwater
Instructors) certified safety divers and equipment provided by Zeagle
Systems, Inc. Swim with the Fishes is $75 and Dive with the Sharks is
$150 per person.
The Florida Aquarium Welcomes Sunny and Sandy, 2 African Black-footed Penguins
The Florida Aquarium is proud to announce the addition of two adorable
African Black-footed Penguins. The African Black-footed penguin lives
in colonies on 24 islands between Namibia and Port Elizabeth, Africa.
They are monogamous, often paring up year after year, and have been
known to stay with the same mate for as many as 10 years. Their diet
consists of sardines, anchovies, squid and herrings. The incubation
period lasts about 40 days with the male and female taking equal turns
keeping the egg warm. The length of each of these shifts last about two
and a half days.
The Florida Aquarium invites you to gather on the red carpet to meet Sunny and Sandy face-to-face when you visit!
Each day at the Penguin Promenades you can see these penguins with no
borders and no barriers. During your unique visit please remain calm
while sitting on the red carpet so as not to frighten Sunny and Sandy.
