Celebrate American Indian History At The Dothan Civic Center In Alabama, By Peter Morris

American Indian History Month Festival takes place in Mid November in Dothan, Alabama at the Dothan Civic Center. The evening's activities begin around 5pm, and include Grand Entry with full regalia and drum, a special guest appearance by Ms. Indian Alabama, two competitive dance divisions and lots of traditional social dancing.

Some of the featured exhibitors at this year's event include Alabama Indian Affairs Commission, Marcia Johnston of Buffalo Woman Flute Music, two living history exhibits presented by the Star Clan of Creek Indians and more. The event host is pleased to announce Richard Greybull (Dakota Sioux) as Head Man and Ellen Rasco (Echota Cherokee) as Head Lady. The MC is Faron Weeks (Echota Cherokee) and the Arena Director is Nick Johnston (MoWa Choctaw). The Host Drum is Medicine Tail (Poarch Creek) and the Color Guard is implemented by the MaChis Creek.

American Indian History Month Festival currently includes seven of Alabama’s nine American Indian tribes and several travelers from outside the state.
