Music Unites Songwriter's Along Alabama's Gulf Coast, By Melody Schubert
Songwriter's from around the country will gather at the Frank Brown International Songwriters’ Festival along Alabama's Gulf Shore's this November. This exciting event showcases not only Grammy Award-winning artists, but also chart topping writers and up-and-coming musicians in intimate settings at various venues throughout the Gulf Shores and Orange Beach area. The annual Frank Brown International Songwriters’ Festival runs 10-days pays tribute a night watchman of the legendary Flora-Bama roadhouse, who had an extraordinary passion for songwriters and their craft. Brown worked for 28 years at the Flora-Bama until his retirement at the age of 91 when he was featured on Paul Harvey’s “The Rest of the Story.” Beginning with the kickoff party at the Flora-Bama, the schedule continues with an extensive list of live performances that include two showcases from the nation’s top performance rights organizations. Other popular festival events include a celebrity golf tournament and scramble, and a Night of Memories in honor of songwriters past. Along with the festivities this is also a time for songwriter's to learn more and share their experiences at the two-day songwriting seminar presented by ASCAP and Middle Tennessee State University.
When not at the Frank Brown International Songwriters’ Festival songwriter's have a exciting selection of events and attractions to enjoy. Head out along the shore for a day of fish aboard a chartered cruise, or tee off at one of the Gulf Coast's many championship golf courses. If you prefer to unwind and enjoy Alabama's natural beauty explore the area’s diverse ecosystem on a nature cruise. Everyone has to eat, and the Gulf Shores and Orange Beach area offer plenty of savory selections to enjoy on your trip. Grab a beer and get to know the locals at the traditional beachside grills, or expand your menu choices and try a bit of Mediterranean, Italian, Cajun or French cuisine. If you're out fishing don't forget that some of the local restaurants will even cook your catch. The Gulf Shores and Orange Beach area is also home to Royal Red shrimp that is found about a 1,000 feet below the gulf waters. With a deep red color and sweet, delicate texture, this cold-water shrimp is delicacy, and can be found in a variety of dishes at the coastal restaurants.
