Seattle is perfect
for the adventurous
whose idea of a great
vacation is a trek up
the slopes of Mount
Rainier. Seattle is also
home to the most famous
American mountain
climbers of the 20th
century, twin brothers
Jim and Lou Whittaker.
For those who prefer
water sports try a bit
of kayaking, canoeing,
or fishing in one of
Washington's pristine
rivers or head down to
the shore for an
afternoon of clamming.
Prefer to swing into
action on the manicured
lawns of world-class
golf courses, Seattle
has several scenic golf
courses.
Winter Fun
Back in the winter or
1937-38, Stevens Pass
was started by two young
men from Seattle, Don
Adams and Bruce Kehr,
both passionate skiers.
Their start was slow
since the area, at that
time, was not fully
accessible in the
wintertime. The road was
closed at Scenic on the
West side. Perseverant
skiers either hiked six
miles to the area or
bought an eighteen cent,
one-way rail ticket for
passage through Cascade
Tunnel on the Great
Northern Passenger
Train. From there, they
were transported to the
area on an old school
bus.

Today,
guests come from
everywhere to ski and
snowboard at Stevens.
Great snow, vast and
varied terrain make
winter at Stevens a
thrilling experience for
the beginner and expert
alike. Stevens Pass has
the most diverse terrain
and more lighted
nighttime acreage than
any other resort in
Washington State. The
terrain ranges from
expert only, double
black diamond chutes and
couloirs to smooth, wide
open cruising runs for
all levels of snow
sports enthusiasts. The
geographical elevation
of Stevens in the North
Central Cascades
combined with dry wind
from the east, makes the
snow conditions
unbeatable.
For
families taking their
children out for their
first big ski trip the
staff at Stevens Pass
are available to help
children learn the ropes
while having fun. It's a
comfort to know they
take time to let each
child learn at their own
pace and have fun in the
snow as well as develop
their confidence and
skills. Once the kids
have the hang of skiing,
the staff is there to
lead them on an exciting
adventure around Stevens
Pass on skis or a via
snowboard. Stevens Pass
has several programs
designed to teach
children to skills they
need on the course and
make it fun. These
programs include the:
Adventure Club (ages
5-12),
Kids Club (ages 3-4),
and
Private Instruction is
available, in addition
to Stevens Pass other
great programs for all
ages and skill levels.
