Kentucky is home to an abundance of wineries where visitors can enjoy wine tours
and tastings. The state is also home to America's first commercial vineyard,
which was planted in 1798 by the winemaker for the Marquis de Lafeyette. By the
late 1800's, Kentucky was the third largest grape and wine producer in the
United States. Elk Creek Vineyards is among the extraordinary Kentucky wineries
that carry on Winemaking Traditions of the past.
Nestled among the rolling hills of Kentucky in Owenton, KY, the Elk Creek
Vineyard is a spectacular place for wine tasting, to enjoy a winemaking tour,
and join special events throughout the year.
Partnered with Cliffhanger
Productions for the 2008 Elk Creek Blues Festival, the winery is as passionate
about wine as it is about music. They are the hosts of this summer’s 2008 Elk
Creek Blues Festival featuring five-time Grammy award winning artist Buddy Guy.
Elk Creek Winery also hosts numerous concerts and artists throughout the summer
on their outdoor stage.
This
year the Annual Elk Creek Blues Festival takes
place at the end of May at the largest winery in Kentucky; Elk Creek Vineyard,
which has won 8 medals in the Kentucky Derby Wine Festival. Among the legendary
musician's performing at the festival is Blues Legend, Buddy Guy. Avid Blues
fans can relax in their armchairs in the rolling meadows of Kentucky’s largest
winery while listening to the Legend himself, along with featured musicians
Roomful of Blues and Cincinnati’s own Sonny Moorman. In addition to special
events, the Elk Creek Vineyard has a beautiful art gallery, a gift shop, and
they offering cooking classes that match meals to their selection of wines.

Among
the fun festive events for families at the Elk Creek Vineyard is the
Owen County Kite Festival held In Mid-May. This
high flying celebration for the entire family features kite flying experts
flying hyper-kites, demonstrating these beautifully engineered flights of fancy!
Bring your kite or make one during the festival and enjoy music, and artwork by
artists from throughout Owen County and Northern Kentucky. PIGS Aloft Kite Club
of Cincinnati will help kids and adults fly kites from 11 AM to 3 PM on the
pigeon range at Elk Creek Hunt Club. Food will be available on the grounds
provided by vendors.
The
Vineyard also has a lovely Bed and Breakfast that welcomes guests with warmth
southern hospitality. With all the Vineyard offers it is a wonderful place for a
day trip or a stop over while exploring Kentucky. Drop by and enjoy a glass of
wine, musical entertainment, or just bite to eat from their cafe. Whatever time
of year you visit you're sure to a memorable time, and find a
healthy
collection of red and white wines, including some originals such as Crazy Elk
Blush and Sweet Owen Red.
