Spice Up Your Visit To Indianapolis At The Adobo Grill, By Melody Schubert

When it comes to dining in Indianapolis you'll find a savory selection of choices. Sample delicious Italian and Oriental foods or savory steaks and burgers. Try a mix of Brazilian foods and Middle Eastern delights, and then there's the spicy and authentic favorites found at Adobo Grill. And, what makes Indianapolis a great place for business or pleasure is almost everything to see, taste, and do are all close and within walking distance of downtown hotels like those at the Marriott Place.

This was the case on our recent visit with a group of friends. We stayed at the Fairfield Inn located in the Marriott Place, which is one of three new select services hotels. There is also the Marriott Courtyard, Spring Hill Suites, and the sapphire jewel in the Marriott Place collection; the JW Marriott, which will open soon. These hotels are just a sample of the options available for you stay in Indianapolis.

We met in the lobby of the Fairfield Inn and enjoyed a leisurely stroll through the heart of town on Washington St. As you'll find out, Indianapolis is very walkable, and there are sky walks connecting to the convention center and shopping as well. On our way to the Adobo Grill I snapped many photos of the historic buildings, which are especially beautiful in the winter with the festive lights spread throughout town.

The Adobo Grill's Famous Guacamole

As we heard, the Adobo Grill was known for its great guacamole, and were delighted to watch them make fresh it right there at our table. Served with crispy tortilla chips, the Adobo Grill's guacamole is simply amazing. We've sampled guacamole at many restaurants, and have yet to find any that compares to the Adobo's when it comes to freshness and taste. The Adobo Grill also serves chips and salsa with your meals, and if you enjoy hot foods then request a sample of one of their warmer salsa's, which is also great for adding extra spice to your food.

Adobo's authentic Mexican cuisine originated in Chicago, and is now one of Indy's hot spots. Indulge in a margarita, or try a shot of tequila; there's over 90 varieties offered at Indy's only ceviche bar. Monday thru Friday you can enjoy Happy Hour Specials as well that begin at the Bar at 4:00 to 6:00. The margarita's a wonderful as are the wines; we enjoyed a bottle of red wine called Sangre Tora that was refreshing.

The Adobo Grill's Weekly Specials

Throughout the week there are also several specials selection to sample; including the Pozole Estillo Guerrero for 14.99 on Thursday's. Savory the authentic flavors of the Guerrero style red hominy Pozole with your choice of shredded chicken or pork. It is served with a touch of lime, diced onion, shredded cabbage, crispy chile de arbol, oregano. And, enjoy the chorizo and cheese stuffed jalapeno; chicken tinga sope, which is a masa pastry cup, crispy chicharon topped with pico de gallo and a crispy tostada.

The Adobo Grill is a intimate restaurant that is ideal for lunch, a evening out, or a festive party. We love the cozy seating selections and the balcony area that has a comfortable spacious couch's, and tables as well or dine at the tables outside and enjoyed the Indianapolis night scene. Our group was rather large so we dined in a large party area with a view of the city outside; it felt like we were in a private world where we could enjoy great conversation and the company of friends.
I enjoyed the Chicken Enchiladas Chicken enchiladas basted in ranchera and tomatillo salsas; sour cream, cheese and red onion; refried black beans and guacamole, which were filling, and had just the right amount of spice. Leroy ordered the Monte Albán Cilantro marinated skirt steak layered with guacamole, with grilled tomatoes; morita quemada salsa & refried pinto beans. The steak was tender and cooked just right! We also shared a shared a large Cesar salad topped with avocados that made a perfect appetizer. On top of the great food we found that the service at Adobo Grill was excellent; there was always someone there when we needed them.

We learned that on Wednesday through Saturday the Adobe Grill is open later so put on your dancing shoes and join the festivities as the live music and dancing kicks off. Dancing on Saturday's is a lively events when you can move to a Latin beat and do the salsa, merengue, bachata and cha cha! And, if you'd love to learn to salsa across the dance floor, stick around on Saturday nights for the introductory dance lessons at 10 p.m. hosted by the dancer from Salsa Indy. (www.salsaindy.com)

Whenever you visit the Adobo Grill you're certain to enjoy a memorable meal and service!
