2010 Inaugural Circle City Classic High School Showcase, By Judy Worley

The Circle City Classic’s inaugural high school game was awesome with a lot of excitement and had an attendance of 9,215 of some really excited fans who rallied on their teams on to the hopes of winning. But as one knows, only one was victorious and I must say they sure played hard to get there and it was exciting to watch.

As they came out, these guys were fired up to play. There fans showed their excitement as these players came out of their school alma mater helmets with an exuberant amount of energy. The friends and family of these players were ready for some football. Carmel was the first to come out along with their majorettes and flag girls who were in a running prance as they danced around the field carrying the Carmel flags. Next up were the Warren Central Warriors who were just as fired up as their opponent the Carmel Greyhounds, but these Warriors sure did show a calm yet focused and controlled attitude coming onto the field, unlike their fired up opponents the Carmel Greyhounds.

Starting the game Camel won the coin toss. And even though they won the toss the Warriors were the 1st to make a touchdown. Carmel then brought it back for a great play that resulted in a Greyhound touchdown as well.

As the game progressed there were more great plays along with some unwanted flags and a few penalties, but a lot of fury made this a great game.

These two teams made this a fun to watch inaugural high school game, and with only 3.48 left in the 1st half of the game, the Warriors brought it back for yet another touchdown. The Greyhounds played tough, but I tell you these Warrior’s defense was tight, not leaving the Greyhounds a lot of room to get through. At the half the score was 14 to 23, Warriors.

When half time arrived not only did the Warriors play great ball they also had an awesome band that played with incredible enthusiasm with a touch of elegance, and the Greyhounds majorettes and flag girls danced to a mix of music with a subtle grace in their every move. This half time show was really awesome!

Then the second half of the game started with a few fumbles, flags and some more unwanted penalties. But the game progressed with the Greyhounds making the first score of the second half with a field goal making the score 17 to 23, still the Warriors on top. Carmel didn’t slow down and kept putting the pressure on, forcing the Warriors to punt a few times, and then Carmel made another field goal that brought the score 20 to 23, still with the Warriors on top going into the 4th quarter.

Starting into the last quarter, the Warriors brought on the real heat to the Carmel Greyhounds as they were behind by 3 points. But the Warriors turned it up making a quick touchdown within the first couple of minutes, making them on top with a score of 30 to 20. What a way to start the quarter.

Carmel’s defense for most of the 4th quarter toughened up not allowing the Warriors much yardage. But the Warriors threw an awesome pass resulting in a touchdown with only 4.07 left in the game. With less than 3 minutes, Carmel brought on more heat with some great quarterback action in passes. But the Warriors defense was tough stopping the Greyhounds from a few-could have been good plays.

With only 1.46 minutes left, the Greyhounds made another touchdown making the score 27 to 37 and the Warriors were still on top and brought on the BIG WIN for the 1st Circle City Classic High School football game. Wow, what a great game! I will for sure be back next year for some more great sports action here in Indy.

Congratulations Warriors!
