A Unforgettable Summer In Santa Monica, By Melody Schubert

When it comes to outdoor fun and entertainment in the summer sun there's no better place to enjoy it than in Santa Monica. From summer solstice parties and free concerts to daily outdoor entertainment, this summer, Santa Monica has a long list of activities to enjoy.

Among the FREE events to join on your visit are many outdoor summer concerts, activities on beach as well as community celebrations. One of the most popular summertime activities in Santa Monica is the annual Twilight Dance Series that has been running for 26 years. This entertaining event starts in July and runs through September. It takes place on every Thursday evening, beginning at 7 p.m. on the Santa Monica Pier. The event includes free outdoor concerts with jazz, pop and iconic music offerings for all ages that are always open and free to the public. This is just one of the various fun events to join, along with Summer Solstice parties, jazz on the lawn, arts, food and other festivals that add a spark to Summertime fun in Santa Monica.

Speaking of sparks, the 4th of July is also a fabulous time to visit Santa Monica for the Annual Santa Monica Fourth of July Parade. It takes place from 9:30-11:30 a.m., and begins at the beginning at the Santa Monica Civic Center and stretches the entire length of Main Street. After the parade, there is a refreshment area at Ocean View Park, as well as live entertainment until noon. The best way to enjoy the parade is to arrive early, and take a bike or bus to avoid excess traffic since Main Street is closed during the parade.

Getting around Santa Monica is easy since it's just an 8.3 square mile city, which is easily walkable with most of the hotels located within a few blocks of Santa Monica's historical surroundings, intriguing attractions, offbeat treasures, shops and restaurants. Once you get settled into your hotel you can leave your car behind and explore everything on foot. Another option many visitors enjoy is  renting a bike, segway, roller blades, or a scooter, and there is great bus service in Santa Monica; the famous Big Blue Bus runs daily. Local certified taxis are also available to drive you around Santa Monica, as well as throughout the Los Angeles area.

With specials, great hotel packages, plus many free activities and events, you'll find plenty to make your visit to Santa Monica a unforgettable one.
