Step back to the 1880's In Santa Barbara At the Union Hotel & Victorian Mansion, By Melody Schubert

Each year the beautiful beaches, majestic mountains and colorful culture of Santa Barbara draw travelers to this premier resort destination known as American Riviera, which is also listed as one of the Preserve America Communities.

Did You Know?

One of the legends about Santa Barbara concerns its name; it is said that Spanish explores were caught in a terrible storm along the coast and prayed for safety to Saint Barbara, the patron saint of those in danger from fierce thunderstorms. Their prays were answered, and they named it the area Santa Barbara in the saints honor. Many cultures have called Santa Barbara home, among these the Chumash Indians, the Spanish, and Mexico before the City become part of the United States. Through this period these cultures shared a common interest; each relied on farming and the natural resources available.  The area is also known for its wine industry, but perhaps what sets it a par from other areas in California is Santa Barbara Mission, which is a State and a National Historic Landmark

When not lounging on the beach or touring wine country visit the Union Hotel & Victorian Mansion located not far from Santa Barbara which host exciting annual events like the Spring Garden Social and Scavenger Hunt.

Guests who attend are invited to slip into vintage 1880's and roam the grounds of the hotel. At the Spring Garden Social and Scavenger Hunt guests keep a sharp eye out search for hidden prizes in the hedge maze.
